Dave Ulliott Biography

Dave Ulliott was Born in Hull and was a minor figure in the Kingston Upon Hull underworld but was able to become a World Series of Poker bracelet winner and a regular on televised poker.

Ulliott's early life was that of most trouble young men. He was not interested in school and fell into a number of poor paying jobs. Eventually he ended up as a member of a safe cracking team. After a few arrests and a couple of different stays in prison Dave eventually gave up his live of crime.

Ulliott began playing poker with his parents at the age of four and by the age of 16 he was playing three card brag. Eventually Dave was organizing poker games in the back of his shop and playing in other home games. Dave was so good that people stopped telling him about the games. In late 1990 Dave began travelling around to play poker 6 nights a week. Eventually Dave was banned from all William Hill betting shops because he took 4,000 pounds and turned it into 70,000 pounds.

In 1997 Ulliott entered the WSOP with $200,000 and lost all of it. Dave then borrowed $70,000 more and lost all of this too. He eventually scrapped together enough money to enter the $2,000 Pot Limit Texas Hold'em event which he narrowly won earning himself his first and only (thus far) WSOP bracelet and $180,000 in prize money.

After winning the bracelet at the 1997 World Series of Poker Dave played in a number of successful cash games where he earned upto $20,000 a day. Dave returned home after a few weeks with more than $700,000 in cash.

Dave was regular on Late Night Poker and is credited with getting the series renewed after it's first year. In the first year of the series (1999) Dave dominated the series and won the series and the 40,000 pounds in prize money. Dave made the final table is the second series but did not win.

Dave has had equal success at the World Poker Tour. In 2003 Dave won the biggest cash prize in the WPT first season. Dave outlasted a field of 160 players to face Phil Ivey at the final table. Dave defeated Phil to claim the $589,000 first place price. daves performace in this tournament is still refered to as "the most dominating performance in WPT history" by commentator Mike Sexton. In the second season of the WPT Dave was invited to play in the WPT Bad Boys of Poker invitational.

Dave has come close to winning a second WSOp bracelet a number of times but it has elluded him, In 1998, 2000 and in 2001 he finished second in a number of WSOP events.
